Type of position: PhD, research position, research engineer in academia
Name: Vadim Akhmerov
Description: I am a recent MSc graduate in Artificial Intelligence (with distinction, ITMO University) and a research engineer at ITMO's Institute of Artificial Intelligence, looking for PhD or research position in academia in North / Western Europe and North America. My work is on the automated generation and optimization of LLM-based multi-agent systems. In my thesis I developed training-free, per-task structural optimization of such systems, including a fully LLM-driven evolutionary method with a judge-ensemble fitness function and an iterative meta-agent regeneration scheme; my first-author paper on evolving multi-agent systems with LLMs was presented at the GECCO 2026 LLMfwEC workshop. I also work on prompt optimization (a GEPA-based module) and model routing, and I maintain open-source optimization software (GOLEM). I am increasingly drawn to a more fundamental question — the limits of corpus-bound agentic systems, and where evolutionary search and interaction with the world, rather than the corpus alone, become necessary to move past the existing frontier. Attending GECCO 2026 in person and glad to talk.
